Construction work at Cataratas International Airport, in Foz do Iguaçu (PR), continues at an accelerated pace. Infraero takes advantage of the reduction in the demand for flights to redesign the works, advancing the measures for the process of resuming the Brazilian airline industry. The value of the contract is R $ 53.9 million, and the funds come from an agreement signed between Itaipu and Infraero.
“The works at Foz do Iguaçu Airport will transform the reality of the city, which will be able to receive more travelers each year and with increased comfort. Also, the airport will be able to receive direct flights from Europe and the United States”, pointed out the airport superintendent, Joacir Araújo.
At the moment, there are services for the expansion of the aircraft yard, with an investment of R $ 6.1 million, in addition to expanding the landing and take-off runway by 600 meters. Other improvements are the duplication of the access road to the airport and the implantation of a bike path. With an investment of R $ 6.5 million, the works will improve the fluidity of vehicle arrivals and departures at the border terminal and ensure safety for cyclists. The expansion of the passenger terminal was inaugurated in February this year, with R $ 42.4 million invested.
For the Brazilian general director of Itaipu, general Joaquim Silva e Luna, Itaipu’s support for the works that will change Foz do Iguaçu and the region are part of the company’s mission and are in line with the guidelines of the federal government. “In addition to generating quality electricity, we must also promote sustainable economic, tourist, and technological development in Brazil and Paraguay, so I understood, together with my board, that we should invest in what would leave a legacy,” he said.
