The federal government has authorized foreigners of any nationality to enter all airports in Brazil. The measure was published in an extra edition of the Diário Oficial da União and extends, for 30 days, the restriction on the entry of foreigners “by road, by other land or waterway transportation.”
In July, the government had already partially released the entry of foreigners by air, maintaining the restriction at the airports of Mato Grosso do Sul, Paraíba, Rondônia, Rio Grande do Sul, and Tocantins. Last month, the regulation reached airports in Goiás, Mato Grosso do Sul, Rio Grande do Sul, Rondônia, Roraima, and Tocantins.
Since international flights and the entry of foreigners in other ways were restricted in March, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the government has been evaluating, month by month, the measures that must be maintained.
Entry by foreigners by air is permitted provided that the migratory requirements appropriate to their condition are obeyed, including having an entry visa, when required. Those who come to Brazil for a short trip, of up to 90 days, must present to the airline, before boarding, proof of purchase of insurance valid in Brazil, for health expenses.
The joint ordinance signed by the Civil House and by the ministries of Health, Infrastructure, Justice, and Public Security authorizes, exceptionally, the foreigner who is in a land border country with Brazil and needs to cross it to board a flight back to his country of origin. Residence, to enter with authorization from the Federal Police and go directly to the airport. To do this, you must submit an official demand from your country’s embassy or consulate and the corresponding airline tickets.
